The aggregates system is the easiest to use due to the fact that the aggregate substance will support the roots of your plant which eliminates the need for any additional support having to be put in place.

You need to choose the proper size of aggregate substance to allow for the proper amounts of flooding and draining. Larger particles will require more frequent flooding while smaller particles may not allow proper drainage and aeration.
Once you have found the ideal aggregate, you place your plants in the locations that you want. You then place the nutrient solution into the adjacent tank. When your roots need to be moistened, you simply flood the plant tank with the solution and then drain it off. The draining process aerates the solution while there is enough nutrients and water left on your plant roots to maintain them until the next flooding. The flooding process will take you about ten minutes, while it may take up to a half hour for the entire plant tank to drain. You should ensure that the aggregate layer has no excess water lying on it, as this condition can promote the growth of algae.
